Bruins’ Charlie McAvoy to have NHL player safety hearing
McAvoy was initially assessed a two-minute minor penalty for his hit on Columbus forward Josh Anderson.
Bruins defenseman Charlie McAvoy will have a hearing with the NHL Department of Player Safety for his hit on Columbus’s Josh Anderson, the NHL said Tuesday.

McAvoy delivered the hit late in the second period of Monday’s Game 6 as Anderson was skating along the boards with the puck. McAvoy was whistled for an illegal hit to the head and served a two-minute minor penalty, which the Bruins were able to kill off.

He could be facing a suspension to start the Eastern Conference Final against the Carolina Hurricanes, or he might just get a stern talking-to, as there are several factors in his favor.
Anderson was able to return to action to start the third period, and there appeared to be no animosity after the two had a brief conversation in the handshake line.
McAvoy also does not have a reputation as a dirty player, and he did not extend his elbow on the play, keeping his arm tucked in and leading with his shoulder in what looked to be an attempt to land a hit on Anderson’s chest first.
