Here’s the list of injuries the Bruins were dealing with in the playoffs
At the conclusion of every NHL playoff run, fans find out what injuries the players were carrying during the season. The laundry list of vague upper- or lower- body wounds are usually revealed and minor knocks that were kept entirely under wraps come to light. In 2013, it turned out Patrice Bergeron had led the Bruins to the Stanley Cup Finals with a broken rib, separated shoulder, and punctured lung.
All lungs were intact for the Bruins this time around as Boston reached the second round, but there were an assortment of other ailments.
Here’s the complete list of injuries the Bruins were carrying in the 2018 playoffs:
Torey Krug: The defenseman suffered a fractured ankle during the third period of Game 4 against the Tampa Bay Lightning. He will wear a boot on his left foot for two months, but will not need surgery and expects to be ready for training camp.
Zdeno Chara: The Bruins captain dealt with a left shoulder injury during the playoffs. He also suffered a fractured right index finger during Game 2 against the Maple Leafs, per The Athletic’s Joe McDonald. He hopes to avoid surgery on both over the offseason.
Jake DeBrusk: DeBrusk sprained the AC joint in his shoulder during Game 1 against the Toronto Maple Leafs. The expected recovery time is one month.
Riley Nash: Nash suffered a concussion when he took a slap shot to the ear on March 31. He returned for the playoffs but was also dealing with a hip injury that might require surgery.
Brandon Carlo: Carlo was sidelined for the season after he fractured his left ankle on March 31. On Wednesday, the defenseman said he feels “fantastic” and will be ready for training camp.
Brad Marchand: The left wing was carrying a groin injury during the Lightning series. He will not need surgery.
Patrice Bergeron: Bergeron missed Game 4 against the Maple Leafs with concussion-like symptoms and a bad cold. He also had a recurrent groin issue that came back during the postseason and could require surgery if it does not improve in the next 2-3 weeks.
David Backes: Backes said he suffered from concussion-like symptoms after colliding with Tampa’s J.T. Miller in the second period of Game 5.
Noel Acciari: The right wing was playing with a sports hernia from November through the end of the season. He will have an offseason procedure, per the Patriot Ledger’s Mike Loftus.
