DENVER – One month into the new NHL season, we have our clear-cut matchup for the NHL’s Vezina Trophy: Tuukka Rask vs. Carey Price.

Rask recorded his third shutout of 2016-17 on Sunday night, 2-0, over the Avalanche, snuffing out 21 shots less than 24 hours after allowing the Coyotes only one goal on 32 shots in Glendale, AZ.

Rask, 10-1-0 and riding a wave of four straight victories, is now tied with the Canadiens’ Price (10-0-0) in wins, and is second to the star Habs tender in goals against average (1.54 vs. 1.40).

The string of four wins was enough for the NHL on Monday to name Rask its first star for last week, followed by Winnipeg center Mark Scheifele and fellow Finnish tender Pekka Rinne.

Price, whose knee injury last season caused the Habs to plummet out of the playoff picture in the Eastern Conference, also leads the league in save percentage with .957. Rask ranks third with his miserly .945, just behind Devan Dubnyk (.947), who could go head-to-head with Rask Thursday night in St. Paul when the Bruins wrap up their three-game road trip against the Wild.
