The Bruins were badly beaten without Tuukka Rask, the Celtics return to action tonight, and the Indians jumped out to a 1-0 World Series lead.

Claude Julien doesn’t blame goaltending combo for ugly loss to Wild: The Bruins pulled 22 year-old Malcolm Subban after he allowed 3 goals in the 2nd period, and his replacement Zane McIntyre went on to allow two more. But coach Claude Julien blamed the other players on the ice for the loss. “I don’t care who’s in net,” he said. “It doesn’t matter if Tuukka is in net… You’ve got to let the system take care of the game and if you play it the right way, you have a chance to win.” (WEEI)

Watch Weymouth, Mass. native Charlie Coyle score against his hometown team: The first goal allowed by Subban came courtesy of Charlie Coyle, a 24 year-old Boston University alum who grew up in Weymouth, Mass. and attended Thayer Academy. The top-line winger finally capitalized on the momentum the Wild built in the 1st period with a shot that slipped under Subban’s arm midway through the 2nd. Minnesota would score again just 12 seconds later. (Twitter)

Dave Dombrowski explains how he is reconfiguring Red Sox’ front office: The Red Sox said yesterday they would not fill the position of general manager vacated by Mike Hazen, instead promoting Eddie Romero to assistant general manager. Dave Dombrowski said he interviewed Romero and the now-departed Amiel Sawdaye for the position before making his decision. “Were very impressed with both of them,” he said. “However, I didn’t think from their exposure to the major leagues at this point were quite ready to be general managers.” (WEEI)

Patriots defense eyeing uptick in picks, offense looking to curb fumbles: In their Tuesday conference calls, coordinators Josh McDaniels and Matt Patricia both said they are focusing on turnovers. McDaniels said the offense is trying to buck a trend of fumbles this season. “There’s no question our players and coaches are emphasizing that,” he said. Patricia said he always likes to see more interceptions come from his unit, with 5 tallied so far this year. (NESN)
