Since 2012, the Boston Bruins have been conducting an offseason video series to give fans a behind-the-scenes look at where their favorite players grew up or spend their summers.

The latest look offers a peek at where the team’s biggest offseason addition, former Blues center David Backes, first tied up his skates. Traveling all the way to Blaine, Minn., the video crew captured some footage of Backes showing them around his first hockey rink, trying out curling with former Olympian John Benton, and later inviting them into his home to meet his dogs.

Inside Fogarty Arena, Backes explains that he first started skating when he was 5 years old, and that it was a friend’s father who first taught him how to skate. “With full gear, you feel a little bit like you’re invincible,” he says. “Playing here as a high school player was some of my best memories.”

The series already featured John-Michael Liles, and will also feature Riley Nash and Joe Morrow.
