The Bruins have signed former St. Louis Blues captain David Backes to a five-year deal worth $6 million per season.

A 32-year-old forward, Backes helped the Blues reach the Western Conference Finals in 2016, scoring seven goals and notching seven assists in 20 playoff games. Previously, he played his entire 10-year career in St. Louis.

The Backes acquisition comes shortly after news broke that the Bruins lost Loui Eriksson to Vancouver.

Update: The Bruins officially announced that Backes has signed.
