The Bruins are saying goodbye to half of their first line defensive pairing that won the Stanley Cup in 2011.

Boston will buy out the contract of 34-year-old Dennis Seidenberg, the team announced Thursday. Seidenberg was due to make $7 million over the next two seasons, according to the Boston Globe:

The buyout will cost the Bruins $1,166,667 in cap space in 2016-17, 2018-19, and 2019-20. They will carry a $2,166,667 hit in 2017-18.

The move will save the Bruins about $4.6 million in salary cap space, according to CSNNE.com. Seidenberg had one goal and 11 assists in 61 games last season.
