Bruins reportedly preparing offer sheet for Jacob Trouba
Trouba could cost the Bruins four first-round picks
The Bruins may get their No. 1 defenseman of the future after all.
Boston is preparing a major offer sheet for 22-year-old Winnipeg defenseman Jacob Trouba, a source tells CSNNE.com’s Joe Haggerty.
The cost for Trouba would be steep — a minimum of $47 million. From Haggerty:
Because they sent their 2017 third round pick to the Flyers for Zac Rinaldo and their 2017 second round pick to New Jersey for Lee Stempniak, the Bruins must put together an offer sheet with an average annual value (AAV) of at least $9.3 million that will require Boston to give up four consecutive first round picks as compensation.
It’s no secret the Bruins have been in the market for a top defenseman. The team failed to make a major move during last week’s NHL Draft after showing reported interest in Kevin Shattenkirk and Cam Fowler. The Bruins have also shown interest in free agent to be Steven Stamkos, though Haggerty says the Bruins signing the NHL’s top free agent is unlikely.
