Providence Bruins coach promoted to assistant as Bruins announce staff changes
Another departure, two new hires.
In a young offseason which already saw one major change to the coaching staff, the Bruins announced another major shakeup Tuesday. Former Providence Bruins head coach Bruce Cassidy and former director of player development Jay Pandolfo have been promoted to assistant coaches, while longtime assistant coach Doug Jarvis has not been asked to return for the 2015-2016 season.
Jarvis, who has been a part of Claude Julien’s coaching staff since August of 2010, is the second head coach to be relieved of his duties in the offseason; just five weeks ago Doug Houda was not asked to return. Houda has since been hired by the Detroit Red Wings as an assistant coach.
Cassidy and Pandolfo will join a coaching staff which consists of Joe Sacco, and Bob Essensa, the goaltending coach.
Cassidy recently wrapped up his fifth season as the head coach of Boston’s AHL affiliate, the Providence Bruins. While Cassidy was at the helm, the Baby B’s posted a 207-128-45 record, while making the playoffs each of the past four seasons. The 50-year old native of Ottawa, Ontario spent 2008-2011 as an assistant coach for Providence.
Pandolfo spent the 2015-2016 season working in the Bruins front office as the director of player development. He joined the Bruins organization as a player development coach for the 2014-2015 season, following a 15 year NHL career with the New Jersey Devils, New York Islanders, and the Bruins. The Burlington, Mass. native spent his collegiate career at Boston University, playing four years. He won a national title with the Terriers in 1995.
