Bruins’ top trade targets

Cam Atkinson, RW, Columbus Blue Jackets. Age: 26. 2015-16 stats: 18 goals, 17 assists. — ESPN’s Pierre LeBrun reported that the Blue Jackets “have chatted about [Atkinson] and he’s on the Bruins’ radar.’’ The former Boston College Eagle’s production could provide a boost to the 2nd line following Ryan Spooner’s return to the 3rd line.

Shane Doan, RW, Arizona Coyotes. Age: 39. 2015-16 stats: 19 goals, 11 assists. — The Coyotes Captain has had a great history in Arizona, but as the team continues to rebuild and his window to win a Stanley Cup begins to close, the idea of him joining the Bruins seems more and more feasible. Doan could immediately produce either on the 2nd or 3rd lines, and provide additional veteran leadership (think Jaromir Jagr’s 12-game stint in 2013).

Jonathan Drouin, LW, Tampa Bay Lightning. Age: 20. 2015-16 stats: 2 goals, 6 assists (19 games) — Taken third overall in the 2013 draft, Drouin is considered to have some of the best potential out of any forward to come out of that draft class (high praise, Nathan MacKinnon and Aleksander Barkov were taken at 1 and 2 before him). His time in Tampa Bay has begun to sour, and his agent has been actively seeking out a trade. An immediate addition to the bottom-six, and a major investment in the future of the team. Drouin has great potential in a long-term pairing with Pastrnak. He hasn’t played since Dec. 30.

Kyle Okposo, RW, New York Islanders. Age: 27. 2015-16 stats: 15 goals, 27 assists. — Okposo has been a consistent workhorse for the Islanders since his breakout season in 2008-09, New York has expressed a desire to keep him, but have reportedly made no progress on a contract extension. On pace for his third consecutive 50 point season, he still has plenty of years of his prime, and would be an immediate addition on the power play (3 PPG, 10 PPA this season) and the 2nd line.

Patrick Marleau, LW/C, San Jose Sharks. Age: 36. 2015-16 stats: 16 goals, 17 assists. A similar story to that of Shane Doan, Marleau would be an indispensable veteran presence who still has a lot left in the tank. Rumors of Marleau leaving his 17-year home of San Jose have been circulating for over a month, and the former Captain could readily slide into the leadership void created if Eriksson and/or Chara leave. Immediate impact on the power play (11 PPA).

Radim Vrbata, RW, Vancouver Canucks. Age:34. 2015-16 stats: 11 goals, 11 assists. Veteran talent with steady production, Vrbata could easily slide into the 2nd or 3rd line if the Bruins deal Eriksson. An unrestricted free agent come summer, if Vancouver decides to head in a new direction and start fresh, Vrbata will be an immediate piece in trades.

Matt Dumba, D, Minnesota Wild. Age: 21. 2015-16 stats: 7 goals, 9 assists. (See also: Jonas Brodin, Marco Scandella). Dumba, Brodin, and Scandella have all been rumored as potential pieces in a Bruins-Wild trade, and all three would provide similar depth to the Bruins’ questionable defense. All three are under 15 points on the season, with 45+ games played, thus have been interchangeable for the Wild this year. All are 25 and under.

Sami Vatanen, D, Anaheim Ducks. Age: 24. 205-16 stats: 6 goals, 19 assists. — Currently being floated out onto the market as trade bait by the Ducks to try and address their issues up front, the 4th-year defenseman could shore up the blue line if Chara goes on either the 1st or 2nd defensive pairing. Productive on the power play (7 goals, 17 assists last year, 1 goal, 7 assists this year).
