The contact looked innocent enough; Ottawa right winger Bobby Ryan bumped David Krejci’s right arm, a highlight that wouldn’t usually warrant any further review. But the collision during the Bruins’ December 27th game against the Senators proved to be significant enough to sideline Krejci for 10 games.

But Bruins fans can start to rest easy; Krejci returned to practice on Monday, and is currently eyeing a potential return Thursday night against Vancouver. He is with the team on their current road trip.

Last season, in the 33 games Krejci sat out due to knee and groin injuries, the Bruins went 16-13-6, a slide which cost the team a playoff berth. In this most recent span on injured reserve, the Bruins have tallied a 4-4-1 record, including a trouncing by Montreal in the Winter Classic and one-goal losses to the Rangers, Capitals, and Flyers.

During Krejci’s absence, Ryan Spooner has shifted to the 2nd line center spot, racking up an impressive two goals and nine assists. But Krejci’s versatility value can’t be denied – prior to his injury, he averaged a team-leading 20:17 of ice time, including 2:58 on the power play and 1:29 on the penalty kill.

Through the first 10 games of the season, Krejci had tallied a league-leading 15 points – 7 goals and 8 assists. Well rested and healthy, the Bruins hope to see a similar tear from their jack-of-all-trades.
