Why Bruins fans should love P.K. Subban this week

Bruins fans have a 906-game history of hating the Montreal Canadiens.

There’s nothing you hate more about a rival team than its best player, and for several seasons, the fiery, frenetic P.K. Subban has been that guy. Subban dodges fights. He embellishes. He beats your team, maybe more often than he should.

But it’s hard to hate Subban this week after the Canadiens star pledged $10 million to Montreal Children’s Hospital.

Last August, Subban sighed an 8-year, $72 million contract with the Canadiens.

“In life I believe you are not defined by what you accomplish, but by what you do for others,’’ Subban said, via NHL.com. “Sometimes I try to think, ‘P.K., are you a hockey player or are you just someone who plays hockey?’ I just play hockey. Because one day I won’t be a hockey player anymore. I’ll just be someone who played hockey. So what do I want people to remember me for other than being a hockey player?
