Bruins’ Patrice Bergeron wins NHL’s Selke Award for third time
This past season may have been a disappointing one for Bruins fans, but at least they can now hang their hats on another league-best performance by assistant captain Patrice Bergeron.
Bergeron on Wednesday was awarded his third career Frank J. Selke Trophy at the annual NHL awards in Las Vegas. The award is given to the league’s best defensive forward, as chosen by the Professional Hockey Writers’ Association.
Bergeron narrowly beat Chicago’s Jonathan Toews for the honor, taking it with 1,083 points to 1,051. He received 75 first-place votes, 24 more than Toews.
Bergeron led the NHL in face-offs (1,951), wins (1,175) and win percentage (60.2 percent) and was among the league’s best in several possession metrics.
After receiving his third Selke, Bergeron addressed his fans via the Bruins’ official Twitter account.
