The Bruins’ quest to return to the playoffs will begin with a tune-up south of the Bay State border.

The team announced its full preseason schedule on Friday, a slate of seven games leading into the not-yet-finalized 2015-16 season.

The Bruins will begin their preseason contests against the New Jersey Devils at the Dunkin Donuts Center in Providence on Sept. 20. They will then head back to Boston for TD Garden matchups with the Washington Capitals and New York Rangers on Sept. 22 and Sept. 24, respectively.

The Bruins then hit the road for three of their last four preseason games. They’ll play the Red Wings in Detroit on Sept. 26 before facing the Wings back in Boston on Sept. 28. The Bruins will finish the slate away from the TD Garden with matchups against the Rangers in New York on Sept. 30 and Capitals in Washington on Oct. 2.

Like spring training in baseball, preseason success on the ice usually has little to do with how a team performs in the regular season, though it can help a team get off on the right foot. The Bruins totaled eight points last preseason before ending the year with 96 points, while in 2013-14 they tallied 12 preseason points and went on the total 117 during the season and claim the Presidents’ Trophy.
