Watch the incredible first goal of the 2015 Stanley Cup Final
The Lightning struck first. The Blackhawks struck back.
The first jaw-dropping goal of the 2015 Stanley Cup Final came just 4:31 into the opening period of Game 1 when Tampa Bay’s Alex Killorn scored with a deft deflection. The forward’s no-look touch on the mid-air puck beat Chicago goalkeeper Corey Crawford at his near post to give Tampa Bay an early lead on Wednesday night.
“I mean, you don’t expect to score on those shots, but I was just trying to sort of hit it toward the net,’’ Killorn said, via NHL.com. “Not something you practice, but lucky it went in.’’
The Lightning’s 1-0 lead would stand up until deep into the third period before the Blackhawks answered. Chicago rallied for a 2-1 win with a two late goals coming in a span of just two minutes. Teuvo Teravainen scored the equalizer with 6:32 to play, and Antoine Vermette scored the winner for the Blackhawks with 4:34 remaining in regulation.
Game 2 is scheduled for Saturday, June 6.
