Bruins Place Krejci on Long-Term Injured Reserve

The Bruins have reportedly placed forward David Krejci on long-term injured reserve, freeing up salary cap space. AP

Bruins forward David Krejci has been placed on long-term injured reserve, according to a source cited by ESPN’s Joe McDonald.

Krejci suffered a partially torn MCL last week against St. Louis and is expected to miss four to six weeks. The designation removes his $5.25 million salary from the team’s cap, allowing the Bruins to sign a free agent or assume salary in trade.

Krejci will be eligible for activation after 24 calendar days or 10 regular-season games, but the team must become cap compliant before he can play. Because the cap is suspended in the postseason, Krejci would have a smooth path to activation should the Bruins make the playoffs.

McDonald said the team has also placed defenseman Kevan Miller on LTIR, who is out for the rest of the season after shoulder surgery. Miller counts for $800,000 against the cap.

The Bruins have until the league’s March 2 trading deadline to make a move, though McDonald says none are imminent.
