BOSTON — The Bruins hadn’t played a game in three days before they hit the ice to take on the Devils, and through the first few minutes they certainly showed the rust. The B’s tallied just one shot through the first quarter of the opening period, and a defensive miscue less than two minutes in allowed Travis Zajac to snap one past Tuukka Rask for the first goal of the game.

The Bruins turned it on after that, however, as they went on a 10-1 run to end the period, with Carl Soderberg and Patrice Bergeron scoring to turn a 1-0 deficit into a 2-1 lead.

Jaromir Jagr netted his 708th career goal to tie the game with seven minutes to play in the second and it looks like the Devils were grabbing some momentum. That’s when Seth Griffith – he of the Bobby Orr-esque goal earlier this year – scored another for the highlight reels, netting a ridiculous backwards and through-the-legs backhand goal while fighting off two defenders to send the Garden into an uproar. Reilly Smith doubled the Bruins lead 1:20 later to give the B’s a 4-2 advantage heading into the second intermission.

The Devils tried to fight their way back in the third, but it was to no avail, as the Bruins held on for their fifth win in as many games. They’ll have an off day on Tuesday before playing three games in four days from Wednesday through Saturday, travelling to Toronto and Montreal before coming home to face Carolina.
