And the hot play continues for Rad Brad Marchand …

The first period was a sleepy one, with the only notable moment being the video tribute to Shawn Thornton. A fan favorite for years, it was Thornton’s first trip back to Boston after spending seven seasons with the Bruins. He signed with the Panthers in the offseason. His parents were in attendance to see it.

The pace picked up in the second period. The Bruins had some chances against netminding nemesis Roberto Luongo, but the Panthers struck first with a Jussi Jokinen goal.

The Bruins got back into the game with a Bergeron goal shortly after, which seemed to bring the building and team to life. Bergeron ripped a quick turnaround slapper past Luongo to bring the game even at one apiece.

The third period continued at a much better pace and spilled into overtime. The Panthers play a very tight, disciplined game that has kept the majority of their games low scoring and close. It was the team’s fifth trip to overtime this season in just 10 games. The OT frame saw some solid goaltending until Brad Marchand beat Luongo with a nifty move around the defense to give the Bruins the 2-1 win.
