The number of million-dollar earners among us continues to grow, the Globe’s Matt Rocheleau reports.

The Massachusetts Department of Revenue’s latest report on million-dollar earners living in the state shows there were 16,115 residents statewide who reported an adjusted gross income of more than $1 million during the 2016 tax year, the most recent year for which data are available.

(Remember, we’re talking about income that exceeds $1 million, not assets.)

Weston had the highest proportion of million-dollar earners, about 44 per 1,000 residents, followed by Dover (36), Wellesley (30), Lincoln (22), and Manchester-by-the-Sea and Sherborn (19).

In terms of raw numbers, Boston boasted the most million-dollar earners for the year, at 2,158, followed by Newton (1,329), Wellesley (873), Weston (522), and Brookline (463).
