In a new study ranking cities on safety, New England had quite a showing, taking the top three spots.

The personal finance site WalletHub looked at more than 180 cities across America and ranked Nashua No. 1. South Burlington, Vt., and Warwick, R.I., came in second and third, respectively.

WalletHub looked at 35 indicators broken down into three categories: home and community safety, natural disaster risk, and financial safety. They weighted each category and gave every city a score from 1 to 100. WalletHub considered only the city proper, not metro areas, and based its rankings on data from federal agencies, realty websites, and nonprofit organizations.

Worcester ranked No. 51, the highest showing for a Massachusetts city. Boston was No. 133.

Other New England cities were also ranked: Lewiston, Maine (7); Portland, Maine (9); Burlington, Vt. (13); Manchester, N.H. (28); Providence (61); Bridgeport, Conn. (101); and New Haven (111).
