Soaring Mass. home prices extending beyond wealthier cities and towns
The most recent surge in Massachusetts home values is good news not only for sellers in Boston and its wealthy suburbs, but for those in many of the state’s smaller, lower-income cities as well.
The Boston Globe reports that while the state’s median single-family home price rose 2.3 percent—to $340,000—over the first 11 months of 2015, cities like Lynn, New Bedford, and Fall River saw even bigger price increases, according to the real estate tracking firm the Warren Group.
Higher prices in and around Boston are pushing buyers to more affordable areas, creating the boon for cities like Lawrence (up about 9 percent) and Brockton (up more than 6 percent), according to the Globe.
