An inn steps from the water in Wareham is being sold as a private home

If the view from this Wareham home doesn’t relax you, the on-site spa will.

Point Independence is a primo spot to view the July 4th fireworks and a second rite of summer here in Onset Village — Illumination Night, when Onset Bay is lined with red flares.

Both events can be viewed from the porch lining this yellow stucco house, now operated as Point Independence Inn & Spa. A splash of grass marks the property line where Point Independence Beach, a public recreational spot, begins, and a gazebo on the 0.31-acre property behind a nautical flagpole stands guard near the point itself. That’s how close this house is to the bay, so flood insurance should factor into your calculations.

A former inn and spa becomes a home

A former inn and spa is now a single-family home

Doors from the porch lead to a three-season sun room lined with white tiles and windows that provide spectacular bay views. The adjoining living room offers its own look across the porch to the bay. The library, on the other side of the house, is a quieter space.

The kitchen drives home the fact that this inn is not a restaurant. The space is more of a service kitchen, with a stove, microwave, refrigerator, and a pass-through with shelving. On the other side of that shelving, however, are the glass-front cabinets in the dining room, which boasts those bay views and is currently used as a gift shop. Although the home is being marketed as a single-family, zoning allows for it to continue as an inn.

And what is a must for an inn? Bedrooms. There are four bedrooms and four baths on the second floor, and three bedrooms and three baths on the third. The rooms vary in size, but the smallest, what’s known as the inn keeper’s room, is large enough for twin beds, proof that the space is not too small. All of the rooms have water views, but on the second floor, two bedrooms kick that up a notch with a porch. On the third floor, the star bedroom offers a large sleeping area, a bay window, and two sitting areas.

Flooring throughout the house is hardwood, and the home also has two fireplaces (not used), and six parking spots, not including those under the carport.

The walk-out basement is finished — and in a very relaxing way: It’s currently a day spa with four massage rooms, and when the windows are open, the soothing sounds of crashing waves slip in.
