This Winthrop home has come a long way since it was built by a crew of shipwrights in the early 1900s, as this Houzz photo essay shows.

Owners Dave Roberts and Lara Van Lannen put their creativity to work when renovating and redecorating the home, adding personal artwork to the walls and even repurposing an elevator interior as a kitchen backsplash.

“We wanted the house itself to be a kind of blank canvas and rely on our furniture and decorations to be the personality of the rooms,’’ Van Lannen told Houzz.

The couple sourced their eclectic decorating supplies from a combination of local businesses and stores like Ikea and Lowe’s. You can see the results below.
