This late 19th century Colonial home in Newton has been given a makeover by mixing the home’s natural old world charm with modern technology.
Charles S. Jacobs and his wife, Hope, have refreshed this late 19th-century home by drawing on what Jacobs calls his “aesthetic sensibility and an attention to critical details’’ flowing from a career in which he has restored antiques and created a management consulting business that brings brain science into the boardroom.
A living room alcove highlights the balance between preservation and technology: A curving window seat rests underneath a wireless sound system with recessed speakers in the ceiling and is framed by a Victorian-style window treatment. The living room contains a marble-framed gas fireplace, an exquisite leaded-glass cabinet, and French doors that lead to a sitting room with built-in bookshelves. Across the foyer is the dining room with exquisite leaded-glass cabinets, the perfect place to enjoy a vintage from the horseshoe-shaped wine cellar in the pristine basement.
The spacious kitchen offers a prep island with sink, high-end stainless-steel appliances, including a gas stove, and longleaf pine cabinets, some of which have clear-glass doors.
