Braintree Home Rebuilt by Contractor is Home of the Week
A house in Braintree stripped down to the studs and rebuilt by the home-builder homeowner is this Week’s Home of the Week.
Billy Spinale is the owner of this turn-of-the-last-century Colonial and a building contractor, giving him a skilled set of hands and a palette to work with at his leisure. The result? He gutted his home; updated the windows, plumbing, and electrical and heating systems; added space to the rear of the building; and then put it back together with high-end details.
The cooking space in the new kitchen is set off from the eating area by two Doric columns that Spinale says he added simply because he likes the way they look. The kitchen offers a prep island, with a Giallo granite counter and an intake to the central vacuum at its base, along with antique-white cabinets and stainless appliances. The refrigerator is clad in custom panels that match the cabinetry. The eating area is comfortably sized and connects to a small porch converted into a sunny bonus room. A full bath can be found off the new hallway, which leads to the backyard.
The formal dining room features wainscoting, crown molding, and a chandelier hanging from a multicolored ceiling medallion. The oak hardwood floors found throughout the home get the high-end touch of a cherry inlay in this room.
A stairway with wainscoting leads to the second floor, where the rooms radiate off a broad landing. The larger bathroom in the house has walls of tumbled stone and a vanity table with mirror. There is no master suite, but the largest bedroom easily accommodates a king-size bed and offers a good-size closet. The middle bedroom is sunny and has a ceiling fan. The smallest bedroom, with high ceilings shaped by the roofline, is being used as an office.
The house is set on a 0.13-acre flat lot at the end of a small dead-end street that’s a short ride to Route 3. Porch railings in both front and back of the house need attention. The basement is unfinished. The home has central air.
Listing agent Leigh Gilmore of Gilmore Realty in West Roxbury is holding an open house Sunday from 1:30 to 3 p.m.
