To remedy what was essentially a plain white box, designer Nikki Dalrymple added trim to the walls of this South End condo. The carefully planned pattern takes the scale of the large, high-ceilinged space into account. “The moldings create depth and draw the eye up,” says Dalrymple, founder of Acquire.

Not only is a gallery wall tricky to execute on paneled walls, the long expanse would have required a lot of artwork. Instead, Dalrymple installed a brass picture rail system from Collier Webb and chose vintage pieces in a variety of original frames from the owners’ own collection.
The sofa’s olive green performance velvet upholstery feels slightly off from the forest green cabinetry in the adjacent kitchen. “The colors vibe, but it’s definitely not a match,” Dalrymple says. A pillow with a leafy motif breaks up the solid while playing with the floral on the chair.
Two rolled, dropped-arm chairs from Jasper Furniture nestle into the bay window. “They had to be fairly beefy to match the scale of the sofa, and the saturation of color needed to align,” Dalrymple says. “Although the fabric is a floral, it isn’t sweet.”
Dalrymple knew this was the one as soon as she saw it at Dover Rug & Home. “It has every color in our palette, and the abstract pattern doesn’t call too much attention to itself when you walk into the room,” she says. The glass coffee table ensures it gets enough play.
