The Andi, a new apartment complex with ground-floor restaurant space in Dorchester’s South Bay, offers modern, open floor plans in a community with easy access to the Red Line and shopping.

South Bay is in transition — the Andi is one of several residential and commercial developments going up in the area, a contrast to the many older homes and buildings nearby. There’s plenty to do with South Bay Center shopping nearby, including seeing a movie and dining out. (There’s a Wahlburgers on the ground floor of the Andi if you want to stay home.) But the Andi itself offers residents several opportunities to keep busy at home, with a pool, cabanas, two club rooms, and two fitness centers.

The model studio apartment featured here is bathed in the natural light from a large window. The kitchen, which runs along one wall, includes stainless-steel appliances, a quartzite countertop, lighting under faux-wood cabinets, and a tile backsplash. The space can easily accommodate a small dining table, a couch and television area, and a bed. The space has also been set up with a nook that can be used as an office area. The flooring is wood plank. For $100 a month, residents also can rent a temporary wall to separate the living area from the bedroom.

The bathroom offers a tub and shower combo and a quartz counter with a porcelain sink atop a wood-look vanity, according to the designer, Patrick Planeta.

All of the apartments have a washer and dryer; some (not the model) come with Juliet or full-size balconies.

When it’s time for social interaction, there’s the main lounge area, which has high ceilings, a television, a billiards table, and a double-sided fireplace it shares with the outdoor entertainment area. The lounge offers a large table and a catering kitchen for parties. There’s also a smaller private dining space surrounded by glass on the other side of the room.

The outdoor entertainment area feels private, despite its urban setting. The building surrounds it, and planters add a natural element. The pool is bordered by seating and cabanas. A table near the pool opens to reveal a fire feature. The space also boasts several grills and two 90-inch televisions.

Back inside, there’s a gym near the lounge with a variety of equipment, including rowing machines and Peloton bikes, and a yoga studio.

When work must be done, the building offers a conference area/club room with a table for telecommuters, and in the lobby, a television screen display heralds train arrivals. For residents who bike to work, there is indoor storage and repair space. For dog owners, there is a pet-washing station.

Parking under the building is available for a monthly fee: $175 for a compact car, $200 for every other size, and $350 for tandem.

Seems as if the Andi is a residence built for those on foot, wheels, or paws.
