What $500,000 of house looks like, all over Greater Boston

Half a million dollars for a home is just about average for Boston, as Zillow currently puts the city’s median home value at $480,000.

But “average” looks a lot different depending on your vantage point. Near Boston, $500,000 will get you a condo or townhouse, but if you’re willing to commute a little farther, half a million could get you a pretty good-sized, single-family house.

We showed you what you could get for approximately $350,000 in the greater Boston area — now, here are five homes that you can get for close to $500,000, ordered from highest price per square foot to lowest.
