Of the Eastern Massachusetts cities that saw the biggest month-over-month increases in the median rent in July, Haverhill led the way, according to a report the Zumper real estate site released Aug. 2.

Haverhill experienced a jump in the median cost for a one-bedroom unit (5.2 percent), followed by Revere (5.1 percent), Everett (4.9 percent), and Brockton (4.7 percent). Medford saw the biggest decline (-5.1 percent), followed by Salem (-4.7 percent) and Malden (-1.2 percent).

Year over year, Salem, Lawrence, and Lowell posted the biggest price gains for a one-bedroom unit, while Everett, Medford, and Waltham saw the biggest declines. That said, the most expensive communities for renters were, in order: Cambridge, Boston, and Brookline. The least expensive were Worcester, Brockton, and Haverhill.
