12 must-see open houses in Greater Boston this weekend (Feb. 15-16)
From a three-bed Winthrop home with built-ins for $470,000 to a five-bed custom contemporary in Brookline for $2,899,000.
Nearly half of prospective buyers are looking for a home outside the metro area where they reside, according to a Jan. 29 report from Zillow, including 31 percent of the searchers looking at Boston.
In some big cities, like Chicago and New York, less than 20 percent of page views were from outside the area, according to the report. On the other hand, non-residents made up the majority of page views in these six US cities: Las Vegas (60.7 percent); Jacksonville, Fla. (56.2 percent); San Antonio (55.2 percent); Riverside-San Bernardino, Calif. (54.7 percent); Raleigh (54.1 percent), N.C.; and New Orleans (52.5 percent).
The report, which tallied three months of searches in 2019, also found that expensive neighborhoods close to downtown were the most popular with outsiders.
“This could reflect interest in living close to jobs when first moving to a city, or it might just be the part of town that visitors most often encounter while traveling, so it’s the part they look up first,” the report stated.
