12 must-see open houses in Greater Boston this weekend (Nov. 16-17)
From a two-bedroom Milton ranch with an updated kitchen for $389,999 to a new five-bedroom Concord Colonial for $1,949,000.
Is the country due for another recession?
Experts are divided on the answer.
On Nov. 8, housing experts discussed economic trends at the National Association of Realtors’ conference in San Francisco.
“I do not foresee a recession in 2020,” Lawrence Yun, chief economist and senior vice president of research at NAR, said in a report recapping the event.
“The US is in need of more new housing. Historically, anytime that we have needed to build, there was never a recession,” Yun added. “This is an incentive for builders to start more construction. If they do, I think we will have at least 12 consecutive years of economic expansion.”
Kenneth T. Rosen, chairman of Rosen Consulting Group, disagreed.
“I think there is a rising risk of recession. If some things go wrong, we could get a recession,” he said. Rosen noted, however, that it’s more likely that the country will avoid one: “Around the country we have pretty strong job creation; we’re adding lots of jobs,” he said. “Consumers feel great, so there are no signs of a recession, although a trade war does cause uncertainty. I think if we’re smart, we’ll get a truce on this and we’ll go forward.”
In September, the United States saw a 2.2 percent drop in existing-home sales, according to NAR, so now may be the time for buyers to hunt. Here are 12 properties hosting open houses this weekend: from a two-bedroom Milton ranch with an updated kitchen for $389,999 to a new five-bedroom Concord Colonial with 5,503 square feet of living space for $1,949,000.
