This Mansard-roofed town house, located on a bend on a street curving toward the crest of Jones Hill, is made for the insomnious bibliophile and the Cape Cod dreamer.

It is a home with three distinct spaces.

The first floor is largely given over to a bedroom where floor-to-ceiling built-in bookshelves filled with dozens of titles occupy one wall, so a sleep aid is always nearby. There is room for a comfy chair.

As is the case for each floor, the ceiling height is 9 feet in this bedroom, a sunny place. The en suite bath features a deep whirlpool tub, river-stone flooring, and glass-tile walls. The walk-in closet also serves as a laundry spot, and the hallway offers direct access to the one-car garage.

A Dorchester town home with three distinct levels

Dorchester condo offers many levels of living

A broad stairwell leads to the second floor and the public space of the house, cast in the glow of an abundance of recessed lights. The open-floor plan contains a dining area large enough for a table for six and a homey living room centered on a gas fireplace. The focal point of the living room indeed is the gas fireplace, but the handsome walnut flooring won’t be overlooked.

The kitchen, located at the rear of the house, features high-end stainless-steel appliances, including a six-burner gas stove; a wine chiller; and European cabinets. The prep island, which has a sink, is made of a slab of limestone and is large enough to seat three. The dining area offers a wet bar, a fireplace, and glass doors that lead to a small deck. A walk-in pantry with a pocket door and a half bath complete the second floor.

The third floor is the pinnacle in so many ways. Here, the master suite offers a big walk-in closet and screened doors that open to a 270-square-foot deck that features a lovely gas fireplace with a ledge-stone facade and something you’d expect to find in a vacation spot on the Cape: an outdoor shower.

The master bath is sleek, clad in a light-gray ceramic tile with a double vanity, separate shower, and a deep tub. The flooring has radiant heat.

In addition to garage space, the home also has a whole-house speaker system and provides a basement as well as yard space big enough for a dog, its realtor said.

Listing broker Sherri Quist of RE/Max Destiny in Jamaica Plain will hold an open house Sunday, Sept. 27, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
