The building would span 210,000 square feet, offering a loading dock, parking, and possibly retail.

The Boston Planning and Development Agency is seeking public comment on a new South Boston project: a six-story life sciences building.

A letter of intent is under review for the 99 A St. development, which would feature a first-level loading dock and basement-level parking for roughly 75 vehicles. The project is a joint venture between Anchor Line Partners, a Boston-based commercial real estate investment firm, and Alexandria Real Estate Equities, a developer of life science and technology campuses. The building would span 210,000 square feet and 95 feet from top to bottom.

Developers say a small retail space may be built at the side, along A Street.

The project site at 99 A St. has long served as a “job center” for the people of Boston, according to the letter of intent, and developers are looking to revive that role — moving away from “obsolete industrial trades” with a new, modern life sciences facility.

A pathway may be built along the southeastern facade of the new building, connecting West Third  and West Second streets, according to the letter of intent. The MBTA’s Broadway Station on the Red Line is just a few blocks away from the project site.

A public meeting will be held on Monday, June 3, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Coopersmith (40 West Third St. in South Boston), and the public comment period will end on June 7. Go to www.bostonplans.org for more information.
