After struggling to obtain funding for the last 14 years, the developer who proposed to build Fenway Center — a multi-building project over the Massachusetts Turnpike in Kenmore Square — is finally ready to start construction.

According to The Boston Globe, developer John Rosenthal has raised $230 million and wants to begin construction on Fenway Center’s two apartment buildings, which will contain a combined total of 313 units.

The Kenmore and Fenway neighborhoods have been changing rapidly over the last few years, with luxury apartment buildings popping up with hefty price tags.

The Globe notes:

“The project has long promised to accelerate the transformation of Kenmore Square. But for more than a decade it has struggled, largely because of the cost of constructing a massive deck over one of the busiest highways in Boston, as well as over a commuter rail line.”

The two apartment buildings are expected to be part of a total of five buildings in the Fenway Center, which will be completed in multiple phases.
