This South End town house was built in 1867, but the finishes are modern — from the floor-to-ceiling mahogany triple-pane windows in the living room and library to the sliding TV wall.
According to listing agent John Neale of Sprogis & Neale Real Estate, the back of 146 West Newton St. was expanded in the 1970s, making it the deepest house on the block. “It gave the architects and the owner a lot more freedom to design something unusual,” Neale said of the extra space.
The five-level, 4,535-square-foot town house has up to five bedrooms, 3.5 baths, three terraces, custom mahogany woodwork at every turn, and a $7,250,000 price tag. A wall of French doors opens from the eat-in kitchen to one of the terraces, creating an ideal outdoor dining space. The kitchen and dining level also features a glass-walled mudroom and an electric dumbwaiter.
Other features of the home include a wet bar, a wood-burning fireplace, a whole-house water filtration system, a garden, and sound, video, and alarm systems.
“Even though it’s a modern house — the finishes are very contemporary — it feels very warm,” Neale said. “It still has a nice softness to it.”
The master suite — which takes up one floor —features its own terrace and a laundry chute.
The garden level houses a guest suite with a full kitchen, as well as a custom wine cellar and storage.
The 16-room property comes with two parking spaces.
