Biggest sales: A Cambridge home with a treetop great room for $7 million
The turn-of-the-last-century Victorian offers five bedrooms, five baths, one half bath, and four fireplaces.
Several homes in Greater Boston went for north of $1 million last week, but the top-seller far and away was this Cambridge Victorian, which dropped for seven times that amount.
5 Fayerweather St. was built in 1894, and sits on 0.24 of an acre. The home offers five bedrooms, five baths, one half bath, and four fireplaces. Listed for $7,200,000 by Gail Roberts and Team at Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage in Cambridge, it sold for an even $7 million on Jan. 31.
The main floor of the 7,000-square-foot home radiates off a center hall, which opens into areas featuring fireplaces and bow windows. A family room boasting a wall of windows leads into the kitchen.
Upstairs, the master suite includes a fireplace in the bedroom, two walk-in closets, and a four-piece bath. Three corner bedrooms can also be found on this floor.
The treetop 25-by-25-foot great room could serve as an office, playroom, or billiards room, according to the listing.
A separate entrance is available for the lower level, which offers media and laundry rooms and a bedroom suite. Outside, a brick driveway leads up to a one-car detached garage.
