Olympian Michelle Kwan sells her Newport estate for about $4 million
The 5,000-square-foot home includes four bedrooms and 5.5 baths.
Olympic figure skater Michelle Kwan has sold her Rhode Island estate for $3,999,000
The Newport property, named Casa del Sole, is a Palladian-style villa originally built in the early 20th century, according to a press release from Gustave White Sotheby’s International Realty in Newport, which handled both ends of the sale.
Kwan had taken sole ownership after filing for divorce from Clay Pell last year. Kwan and Pell both listed ‘‘irreconcilable differences’’ in the divorce papers.
The nearly 2-acre estate was initially listed for $4.4 million. The 5,000-square-foot home includes four bedrooms, including two master suites with balconies, and 5.5 baths.
Kwan is a five-time world figure skating champion, winning Olympic medals in 1998 and 2002.
Pell is a grandson of late US Senator Claiborne Pell, Democrat of Rhode Island, and he unsuccessfully ran for governor in 2014.
Kwan and Pell had married in Providence in 2013.
