Newton home of former Uno Restaurant CEO listed for $1.95 million
Aaron Spencer founded Uno Restaurant Holdings Corp.
Former Uno Restaurant CEO Aaron Spencer and his family have lived at 69 Farlow Road in Newton since 1970, but that’s only a small slice of the property’s history.
“It is an authentic English Tudor,” Spencer said of the home, which was built circa 1900. “The exterior architecture has perfect details, and the interior can be described as modern, but it is not old-fashioned.”
In 1979, years after Spencer and his wife, Irma, bought the house, he signed a deal to franchise Pizzeria Uno (which is now known as Uno Pizzeria & Grill). He founded Uno Restaurant Holdings Corp. and was the CEO until he sold the company six years ago. He remains chairman emeritus. He also served on the state Board of Higher Education from 1996 to 2007, where he also helped launch the Commonwealth Honors College at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
“My children grew up here, and they all loved it here,” Spencer said of the home, realestate.boston.com’s Luxury Home of the Week.
The slate-roofed house is listed for $1,950,000. Inside, you will find four bedrooms, three full baths, and three half baths in 5,420 square feet of living space. Enter into an elegant foyer, where you’ll find hardwood floors and a grand staircase. Throughout the home, there are other original details, such as fine woodwork, molding, archways, and four fireplaces. The eat-in kitchen has been updated, boasting granite countertops and custom cabinets.
“When I bought it, I thoroughly refurbished it from top to bottom and finished the basement,” Spencer said. The lower level offers a billiard room, office, and a family room with access to the terraced backyard.
There is also an attached three-car garage. The home sits on 0.48 of an acre.
There will be an open house on Sunday, Dec. 17, from noon to 2 p.m.
