Situated directly on Newport, Rhode Island’s famous Cliff Walk, the appropriately named “Ocean Lawn” was built in the Queen Anne style in 1889.

With its 13-bedrooms, 10.5-bathrooms, 16,237-square-feet of living space, and almost seven acres of land, the estate is listed for $18.5 million, only slightly less than the $19 million Seafair estate nearby.

51 Cliff Avenue has had its share of famous owners. The Firestone family — think Firestone Tire & Rubber Company — bought the property in the 1950s and owned it until the 1990s, according to The Wall Street Journal.

The WSJ noted:

“Ms. Firestone was known for her clothing, and there’s a closet built for her ball gowns off the ironing room in the servants’ wing. After Ms. Firestone’s death in 1990, the estate sat on the market for years before selling in 1996 for $1.7 million.”

It was then purchased again in 2000 for $6.6 million, about third of what it is going for now.

The estate is private and gated. The Providence Journal notes that Frederick Law Olmsted, famed designer of Central Park and the Boston Public Garden, laid out the grounds at Ocean Lawn.

The interior of home is ornate, to say the least. The windows have handmade shutters and lights were custom-made in France. There are two libraries (one made with mellow oak and the other with English pine) and countless ocean-front views.
