$4 million modern estate on Marblehead Harbor beat out the competition last week

An oceanfront property in Marblehead and an English Tudor in Newton both went for well over a million this week.

Boston area homebuyers did not seem to slow down much in the first week of 2016, as the trend of big home sales continued. Though there were a few over a million in Boston proper, and those mainly in Back Bay and the South End, the suburbs were the real winners this week. Check them out.

14 Foster Street, Marblehead

This home right on Marblehead Harbor has four bedrooms, three bathrooms, 2,864 square feet of living space, and just sold for $4,050,000 on January 6, well above the $549,000 median closing price in town. The modern home has an open concept floor plan, cathedral ceilings, a gazebo, rolling lawns, and plenty of views.

85 Parkwood Drive, Milton

On January 5, this five-bedroom, 4.5-bathroom Colonial home sold for $1,520,000, which is almost three times the $560,000 median closing price in town. It has 6,596 square feet of living space, a stone fireplace, an in-law apartment, an exercise room, a game room, and a terrace.

143 Upland Road, Newton

This unique 3,500-square-foot Tudor style home sold on January 4 for $1,325,000, which is quite a bit over the $880,000 median closing price in town. The home has four bedrooms, two bathrooms, two half bathrooms, a spiral staircase, a new addition off the kitchen, a detatched garage, and a close walk to the T.

On January 5, this massive 11,480-square-foot home with ten bedrooms, six bathrooms, and three half bathrooms, sold for $1,275,000, well over the $710,000 median closing price in town. The home has two kitchens, a formal dining area, a breakfast nook, a wine cellar, a five car garage, a pool, a jacuzzi, a tennis court, and a private pond.
