Viridian tower, overlooking Fenway, opens to immediate interest

The 20-story Viridian tower has great views of Fenway and the city skyline.

Some luxury towers tout their city views; others boast of their spectacular waterfront vistas.

For the newly-minted $200 million Viridian? Spectacular views of Fenway Park. The Abbey Group’s 20-story posh rental tower just celebrated its grand opening.

Apartments on the tower’s east side get a nice view of the ballpark, and the action inside, while residents on the west have city skyline views to enjoy. These views are particularly crisp out on the 15th floor “sun deck’’ and the “sky deck’’ on the 20th floor, said Audrey Epstein Reny, Abbey’s director of marketing.

Still, the new Viridian, which is competing in a Boston market crowded with luxury apartment towers, isn’t just relying on its views to attract tenants.

The new tower, which is already about 30 percent leased, is loaded with amenities as well, Abbey boasts.

The 15th floor sun deck offers “lounge chairs, benches, verdant greenery and an outdoor shower,’’ states a press release issued by the developer. The 20th floor sky deck has a grilling station, areas to dine and relax in, and a glass encased “greenhouse’’ that can be used to host small parties and other gatherings. Handily, it comes equipped with a catering kitchen.

There are also sun tanning chairs and a TV with a movie style screen, as well.

The lobby has art and furnishings from around the world and custom works by artists like Anna Karlin, Chris Kautz, and Rich Brilliant Willing, according to the press release.

The apartments come in a mix of sizes. The one-bedroom units come in three sizes, 650, 750 and 850 square feet. Two-bedrooms weigh in at 1,000 square feet, while three-bedrooms have 1,300 square feet of space.

All those views and perks, however, don’t come cheap.

The most expensive unit is a two-bedroom penthouse with a private deck that rents for $7,500 a month, or $90,000 a year.

Studios start at $2,350, one-bedrooms at $2,825, and two bedrooms at $3,950 per month. A three bedroom will put you out $4,750.
