A Sudbury Mansion Inspired by 15th-Century Venice
For $3.2 million you can get the feeling you own a 15th-century Venetian home, but the amenities of a house built in 2006.

“The difference between this house and a lot of other homes is the execution was done in a way to evoke a 15th-century bucolic estate,’’ said Michael Breer, an agent representing the property from Sotheby’s.

59 Widow Rites Lane in Sudbury has four bedrooms, five-and-a-half bathrooms, 8,746 square feet, and sits on a 2.73-acre lot.
The estate was inspired by the architecture of the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, an international art collection in Boston.
The home’s builder and his wife, who are the current owners, “have long admired the museum,’’ Breer said. The owner did most of the building himself or with people he trusted.
“It was certainly a labor of love,’’ Breer said. “If you walk through the house what you notice is even though some of the elements are old world and some new world, the way it is integrated is done in such a way [that] it all gels really nicely.’’
Unique highlights include the “beehive’’ pizza oven imported from Italy, iron arches imported from France, hand sawed reclaimed Vermont pine doors, and custom floor tiles from France, according to Breer. The home also sits on a hilltop and is removed from nosy neighbors.
