Condos Hoping to Bring New Life to the Financial District
On Thursday, April 16, The Boston Redevelopment Authority approved plans for new residential units at 102-112 Broad Street overlooking the Rose Kennedy Greenway.
The Boston Redevelopment Authority approved plans for a new residential development off the Rose Kennedy Greenway in the Financial District Thursday, April 16. The approval was one of many the BRA made Thursday evening, with other developments getting the green light in Mission Hill and East Boston.
The Bulfinch Building at 102-112 Broad Street is currently home to The Times Restaurant and Pub – an Irish joint with 20 beers on tap – and The Littlest Bar. Both establishments will be replaced, according to the developer, New Boston Ventures.
The Times Restaurant and Pub and The Littlest Bar were not immediately available for comment.

David Goldman, New Boston Ventures Principal, said the new building will include a dog spa, gym, screening room, and a café similar to Flour Bakery + Café.
The 12-story development will feature 40 condos, 3,500 square feet of commercial space, and 35 underground parking spaces. The site is a half-mile away from the MBTA’s Red, Orange, Green and Blue Lines – giving residents easy access to downtown Boston and the harbor waterfront.
Other notable features of the development will be its metal panel façade that will change colors depending on the viewing angle, and its “space efficient and environmentally friendly’’ robotic parking system.
“It shuffles your car around almost like a checkerboard,’’ Goldman said.
Goldman added that the company hopes to maintain some of the Bulfinch building’s historical charm, which dates back to around 1807. “If possible, we’re going to try and reuse timbers from the lobby for tables or shelves,’’ he said.
The Greenway’s park is currently getting its own revamp, with artist Janet Echelman designing a colorful aerial art installment to debut some time this spring.
Construction is slated to begin in fall 2015.
