Consider: At this home in a suburb north of Boston, the backyard is 2,575 acres, give or take. And there are no property taxes on this open land just 10 miles from the Hub.
Located on Fells Road, this expansive Cape is just about five house lots from the Fells Road Path, a gateway into the Middlesex Fells Reservation and its miles of trails, woods, and water.
From the sidewalk, a blacktopped driveway leads to the right side of the home and the one-car garage underneath. About midway, a multilevel stone and brick stairway rises to the covered porch and front door.
First inside is the foyer, where natural light arrives through an oval window on the right wall. Directly ahead is the stairwell to the top two floors, and on the left and behind a sliding pocket door is a half bath with ceramic tile flooring and a white porcelain pedestal sink.
Moving to the right, there is the 218-square-foot living room with a pair of double-hung windows, hardwood flooring, and crown molding. A wood-burning fireplace is embedded into a chimney column, which is the only barrier to the formal dining room.

A short hallway at the end of the living room — just past a doorway to the kitchen — connects to the primary suite. The bedroom is 384 square feet, and the bed itself nestles into a large nook in one corner underneath a double-hung window and recessed lighting. The room is easily large enough to create a spot for seating, and is brightened by two more double-hung windows. The single-door closet is 30 square feet and has built-in shelving.

A door from the bedroom connects to the private bath. It’s 92 square feet and has a single white vanity, ceramic tile flooring, and flowery wallpaper. There is a shower/bath combination with a white subway tile backsplash.
Returning to the public spaces, the hardwood flooring continues in the 282-square-foot dining room, where a triple set of windows is on the right side and a single window on the opposite wall. A central light fixture marks the spot for the table, and a chair rail around the room adds a sense of refinement.

At the end of this room is the entry into a secondary bedroom. It’s 245 square feet, has windows on three exterior walls, hardwood floors, and built-in shelving behind a pair of sliding doors.
Also from the dining room, a separate doorway leads to the 154-square-foot kitchen. Two levels of rustic wooden cabinets line the right side of the space. The countertop is blue granite, and the backsplash is white tile with decorative pineapples. The sink is nicely positioned under a trio of rectangular windows. Appliances — including the electric stove — are white, and the flooring is hardwood.

From the kitchen, a door opens to the 137-square-foot sunroom, offering a bug-free environment in the screened-in space for stargazing through two skylights. One can also sip coffee and ponder the number of stones in the classic New England retaining walls. A door connects to a rear deck if there is an interest in closer examination of the terraced backyard.

Back in the foyer and up the stairs, a French door guards access to the top level and the final bedroom, a sitting area and office, a full bath, and the 480-square-foot walk-in attic.
The bedroom is 167 square feet and has four storage areas. The bath has ceramic tile flooring, a counter with an embedded sink, and a toilet. Separately, in a room next to it, is a shower insert behind a curtain.
The basement is partially finished with flooring and small above-ground windows and wall paneling painted white. The centerpiece is a working wood fireplace with a wood mantle surrounded by shelving. There is a separate laundry room with space for full-size appliances. Flooring in these two rooms is tile. There is a half bath with a single white vanity.

The home has central air conditioning and oil heat.
