There are several outdoor places to entertain guests in this Newbury estate, and one of them is hidden.

This Newbury estate has a secret.

Walk through its antique iron gates, and you’ll find yourself standing in the middle of a stone sculpture garden positioned around a rustic fire pit.

The listing agent, Dolores Person of William Raveis Real Estate, said she’s never seen anything like this “secret garden” before.

Person said the home was originally a barn. Its listing identifies it as a Colonial “with a nod to the Georgian period.” Its front door, flanked by stately white columns, leads into an expansive foyer with an impressive staircase.

The 5,734-square-foot home at 16 Green St. is just off the town green, but hidden from passersby. It was converted in 1938 but “reimagined” by a local builder in 2008. “It’s kind of unique in that it’s an antique exterior, but the interior is all brand-new,” Person said.

Juxtaposed against the estate’s grand staircase, elegant finishes, and a screened porch (it dates to the home’s  conversion) are modern amenities such as stainless-steel appliances and a wet bar. A wall of French doors in the eat-in kitchen looks out over a stone patio and the backyard.

The master bedroom features a double-door entrance, a sitting area, an en-suite bath, and one of the home’s eight fireplaces. In all, the main house offers five bedrooms, six full baths, and one half bath.

Other highlights of the property include a three-car carriage barn, a pool, a pool house with a full bath, and a “summer house,” a structure with three latticework walls and a fireplace.

The 1.16-acre estate is on the market for $2,999,999.
