If you’re going to choose the South End, one of Boston’s most popular neighborhoods, then the urban landscape should be as much a part of your home as the couch.

Living in this fourth-floor corner condo on Northampton Street achieves that — and easily so. It’s a five-room unit in an elevator building called the Modern. The home’s front door opens into a short hallway that doglegs left into the main living space.

The open floor plan is defined by black-framed floor-to-ceiling windows that make the South End part of your house, not just your neighborhood. The windows consume most of two walls in the unit, and their size is reduced only by narrow columns. In the far corner of the room, a slider opens to a small balcony.

With so much to watch through the windows, a cook has a legitimate excuse for being distracted while working in the galley kitchen. The appliances are stainless steel, the stove is gas, and the cabinets are lacquered, shiny, and gray. Many of the cabinet doors are translucent. Opposite the stove is a long counter with a marble countertop and an overhang offering seating for at least three.

There’s a combined washer and dryer in the closet next to the kitchen. The flooring is poured concrete here, but wood in the bedrooms. Stylish silver air ducts spiral across the ceilings in the unit.

The master bedroom is on the right-hand side of the condo, and it continues the design aesthetic — one wall is given over to black-framed windows. The second bedroom is small but offers a nice closet and a great view.

The sole full bath has a multicolor tile shower surround, a gray-and-white basketweave tile floor, and a long single vanity with a white quartz countertop and a deep sink.

The unit includes access to a rooftop deck with a gas grill and a half bath. It does not come with parking, but the monthly association fee covers heat, hot water, gas, water, sewer, master insurance, and snow removal.

The listing agent, Duncan Czamanske of South End Realty Group, will host an open house from noon to 1 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 30.
