In Quincy’s Adams Shore neighborhood, there’s an aviary of names, a section once owned by the Adams presidential family where most of the streets are named for seabirds like the curlew, bittern, albatross — and pelican.

It’s at the start of Pelican Road where this wholly renovated two-story Colonial sits, edged on three sides by a flat and wide yard. Streetside, a wide stairwell leads to the home’s new farmer’s porch.

This house underwent an extensive renovation this year, and that’s obvious immediately upon entering. The flooring is new, a glistening blond oak, and recessed lights scatter across the ceiling.

It’s an open layout punctuated by a chimney column clad in drywall that provides a gentle separation of the three main living spaces: the living and dining areas and kitchen. The front door — a holdover with an oval glass window — opens into the living area, which is cast in the light streaming from two wide windows.

Heading left of the chimney column (which is wired for a TV) leads to a kitchen with stainless-steel appliances and gray soft-close cabinet drawers and doors. The counters are granite, and the sink sits right where it belongs, under a window. A breakfast bar with enough room to seat five juts out from the chimney column, and a door leads to a new deck overlooking the fenced yard.

The dining area, snuggled into the right rear corner of the home, completes the first floor.

Thankfully, the renovation retained original features of the stairwell to the second floor — a square window with stained glass overlooking the landing, as well as the handrail, spindles, and newel posts.

All three bedrooms have a pair of windows and the home’s original refinished hardwood flooring. The master is the largest bedroom; the other two are small. The full bath offers a tub/shower combo, a pedestal sink, and a porcelain tile floor.

The laundry hookup is in the unfinished basement.

The property, which sits in a flood plain, is on 0.12 of an acre.

The listing agent, Mary Beth McGillicuddy of Engel & Völkers in Norwell, will host an open house on Sunday, Dec. 16, from 12:30 to 2 p.m.
