It’s a bit of a hike to get from the street in this hilly Quincy neighborhood to the front porch of the Dutch Gambrel, but the journey is worth it. First, the wide farmer’s porch offers a view of the second fairway at Furnace Brook Golf Club, and, second, the house itself has been updated.

Renovations and an addition opened up the first floor, but not into a complete open floor plan; the layout is shotgun-style without the narrowness. To the right of the entryway is the living room, where the visual focus is on the wood-burning fireplace, which has a slate surround and a wood mantel held up by wrought-iron brackets. The flooring is Brazilian tigerwood.

To the left of the entryway is the dining area, positioned next to windows running along the front of the house.

The eat-in kitchen is in the back of the home. It’s large and sunny with a distinctive detail: The wall behind the sink and the support column at the end of the island are clad in beach stone tile, the sandy tones a nice counterpoint to the mahogany Shaker cabinets. The appliances are stainless steel, including the refrigerator. There is a gas cooktop on the double-wide quartz island, which has an overhang that creates seating for four. The flooring is tile, and a door off the kitchen leads to the fenced-in patio.

A half bath off the kitchen completes this floor.

The addition allowed for the reconfiguration of the bedrooms on the second floor, allowing for a bigger master suite, whose dormer windows overlook the golf course. The bedroom offers closets with built-in shelving, and the flooring is Brazilian tigerwood.

The master bath, which is the same size as the bedroom and accessed via a pocket door with frosted glass, features a double vanity with soapstone counters, a porcelain-tile floor, a brilliantly white soaking tub, and a separate shower with a rainshower head and clear-glass door. The washer and dryer are here behind a closet door.

The home’s two other bedrooms are comfortably sized and have hardwood floors.

The main bath features a floating vanity, a shower/tub combo, a pocket door with frosted glass, and porcelain-tile flooring.

The basement is unfinished, and the plumbing, heating, and electrical systems have been updated. The house, which sits on 0.2 of an acre, comes with two off-street parking spots along South Central Avenue and parking in the rear via a deeded right of way off Highland Street.

The home is steps from Stony Brae Playground, and about a half mile from the Wollaston T stop.
