The windows alone set this condo apart. Then there are the arches.

This third-floor condo is part of what was once the heart of Saints Peter and Paul parish in South Boston, the still-visually dominating Gothic Revival church of rough-hewn Quincy granite constructed in 1848 and then rebuilt in 1853 after a fire.

With its thick exterior walls and copper bell tower intact, the church was converted into 44 condos in 2003, and the style of this unit still bespeaks its origins: The open living/dining room is framed by Roman arches resting atop the crowns of the massive support columns. Natural light arrives in shaded colors through the original stained glass in arched windows.

Make no mistake, however, this is a 21st-century home. The flooring is a glistening hardwood. Just to the left of the front door, the kitchen offers granite counters that are a light brown, solid-wood cabinets, stainless-steel appliances (including a gas stove), and a breakfast counter.

Steps away, a door leads to the full bath, which features a jetted tub/shower combination, a granite-topped single vanity, and a stacked washer and dryer. The latter comes with the unit.

A circular RH chandelier with flame-like lights adds a touch of another time to the dining area, now occupied by a table for four. To the left is a large leather couch, creating the living area and positioned to face the television affixed to the wall.

The stained-glass windows feature abstract designs of varying colors that only hint at their religious inspiration; the central image in each suggests a cross. Underneath the stained-glass windows are standard rectangular ones that open to allow fresh air to circulate into the space.

The bedroom is a private aerie reached by a metal corkscrew stairwell. At the top (18 steps), there is a sunny, rectangular room of some 150 square feet with a skylight and space enough underneath for a queen-sized bed. The closet is in the opposite corner, reached by wriggling past the iron stair railing.

The unit in this elevator building comes with a single deeded parking space and has a sprinkler system. Condo rules allow for it to be rented and for one pet, a dog or cat.
