Room to Love: Home office gets a masculine makeover
A textural woven- silk wallcovering counterbalances the creamy-beige bookcases.
THE BUILT-INS
Westwood-based Holly Joe of Holly Joe Interiors oversaw a total redo of a Colonial for a Westwood family, including the husband’s home office. Joe repainted the outdated cherry cabinetry in Benjamin Moore’s “Seapearl’’ to coordinate with the new statuary marble in the adjacent foyer.
THE WALLS
To counterbalance the creamy-beige bookcases, Joe chose a textural woven- silk wallcovering by Winfield Thybony.
THE BAR
A masculine faux-crocodile tray picked up at the Brimfield Antique Show corrals bar essentials atop a glass and chrome console table that mimics the desk.
THE DESK & THE CHAIR
The homeowner requested a mix of metal, leather, and glass furnishings. For the desk, Joe had a custom piece of glass fabricated for the polished-nickel Mercer base from Williams-Sonoma Home. The Freedom Task Chair from Design Within Reach is comfortable and unstuffy. “An oversized ‘executive chair’ would have taken away from the room’s modernity and overwhelmed the space,’’ Joe said.
THE SEATING
Instead of a sofa, Joe chose a pair of leather- upholstered Zinc chairs from Room & Board so there would be ample space for the family goldendoodle’s bed (not pictured).
THE RUG
The sage green plaid rug from Faber’s Rug Co. in Wellesley was custom cut to fit the room.
